Schwab Integrates New Automated IT Systems Testing Tool From WorkSoft
PR Newswire, Tuesday, November 07, 2000 at 08:32

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 7, 2000 — PRNewswire

Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., today announced an agreement with WorkSoft, Inc., a developer of test automation products, to deploy WorkSoft's unique automated IT application testing solution. WorkSoft's Certify™ solution will allow Schwab to quickly develop and deploy highly reliable programs ranging from critical back-office IT applications to customer-facing Web-based applications.

Under terms of the agreement, The Charles Schwab Corporation will receive a beneficial ownership position in WorkSoft, a private company based in Arlington, Texas. WorkSoft's Certify™ automates quality assurance and testing processes, which helps ensure that Schwab's software programs operate according to their design. By automating the execution of critical business processes, Certify™ helps assure that the software applications, which millions of Schwab's clients as well as its own employees use every day, work as intended.

"As Schwab rolls out new products and services that rely on new and existing technologies, around-the-clock availability of our systems is an absolutely critical aspect of our business," said Dawn Lepore, vice chairman and chief information officer for The Charles Schwab Corporation. "Certify™ enables us to get new systems up and running faster, and it is proving to be a truly revolutionary tool in helping us to route out the bugs and glitches that could disrupt service to our customers."

Automated testing is a major advance for meeting time-to-market demands while maintaining quality across complex systems. Certify™ can test programs running in a variety of environments, including Web servers, mid-tier servers or middleware, and mainframe applications. At Schwab, a recent pilot program using Certify demonstrated an 86 percent gain in productivity when using Certify™ with Schwab's automating testing procedures versus commonly available automated testing technologies. In some cases, Certify™ has helped the development staff test programs in just one hour instead of the usual nine.

"Schwab's dedication to market leadership through technological innovation makes them an ideal business partner," said Linda Hayes, CEO of WorkSoft. "Schwab has challenged us to make a better product so they can deliver services that exceed the expectations of their clients who demand around the clock access to Schwab and its diverse trading systems."
